The PNG Waterboard was established under National Water Supply and Sewerage Act 1986 as a state-owned enterprise with the responsibility for provision and management of Water Supply and Sewerage services throughout the country except in the National Capital District.

 

The PNG Waterboard is vested with the following responsibilities:


  • Provide water supply and sanitation services in the urban centres throughout the country on a commercial basis
  • Promote water supply and sanitation in rural areas and urban fringes.
  • Exercise control over persons and organizations providing water supply and sanitation services.
  • Set standards for materials, workmanship and equipment for water supply and sanitation.
  • Advise the National Executive Council on matters relating to water supply and sanitation.
  • Engage in research related to water supply and sanitation.
